Outfit 12.31.2011

I know I will be jinxing myself by posting this... it always happens, but I am confident I will find a way 'out.'

My new years outfit planning began a few weeks ago. I ordered several things from Hallelu, and I was totally surprised with what I received. Everything that I ordered was marvelous, and the clothing tags made me adore them even more.
As many know I live in St. Louis Missouri, when I think about New Years in the midwest it immediately gives me chills... Short dresses in the middle of winter?! Burrr! BUT good news- its suppose to be 56 on Saturday!! I believe it snowed last year...

Ode to Joy

Isn't it fantastic how we allow people to come into our lives and cause a shake-up? This by all means, is welcome. I love a good shake-up. :D
Thanks to all those who are behind this joyous feeling!!
The good comes with the bad, we must learn to cope and trust that God is in control.
My dearest friends- what would I do without you?

Twinkle...

The stars. Oh how I miss them. They are so strangely bright in the country. I find myself getting lost the night sky, completely forgetting about what's going on around me. I get sucked in, lose sense of time. How long can I stand there gazing up occasionally turning my head for other views, my mouth wide open from stretching my head back so far as to see every part of the deep blue? Hours, until I am chilled to the bone. I love it out here, especially when the clouds are nonexistent.
Nights like these cause me to hate the city, you can't see the stars the way you can out in the wide open. So peaceful, opens your mind. My heart will always belong where the stars shine brightly.

Catch up!

Just got some more photos off my camera. Thought I would play catch up and post some photos that were dying to be shown to the world!
First- I love this blazer, from H&M. Lovely coppery, shimmer polka dotted thing. I wore it to two events, the "Single" Alive Mag party, and the private Trunk Show.
My sweet Esme, sun bathing on my inherited wool rug. Love the colors in this thing. Beautiful mauve and navy. Divine.
Another shot of me in my UGLY Christmas Jumper. All the while its 'jingling' haha. Makes me laugh.
Then of course my beloved Lita's and the night on the town in Main Street St. Charles.

love you allllllllll.

I received this lovely bottle of wine from our contractor at The Temtor! Sine I'm the one that's responsible for them being paid...

Speech

I promise I more like myself than ever before! I am not trying to be something I am not.

As friends would say, I am a dork. I say things like Hazzah! And enjoy knitting as a pasttime... Hey! This is me, this is what I do...

I have been told thrice times, in the last three days, that I have an accent.
On Friday, someone asked where in the UK I was from...
And then yesterday at the hospital, vising my grandfather and grandmother, a random stranger heard me complaining about the knat in the honey, and said I had a Californian accent.. he said I talked the same way as his neices in Santa Cruz, CA.

This has got me thinking... maybe I don't belong in Missouri afterall...

In the Spirit

For a few weeks I've been contemplated buying a Christmas tree, but then the analytical Madelyn began to think:
1. I have a car- how would I haul it?
2. I have NO tree decorations, I don't want to spend valuable money on a rush-ornament purchase.
3. I may not have the muscles to carry the tree up 3 flights of stairs
4. Esme may attack the tree

SO... I decided to get a little creative, and do a little searching for the best plan(t). Of course my mothers Country Living magazines and this little thing called Pinterest. : )

While my parents and Stella (family dog, Goldendoodle) and I searchd our fields for the best Christmas tree for the House, I cut a few branches for my quaint little apartment.

I potted the branches in Mason jars and covered in burlap sack, and the tree is potted in an antique crock.

Trunk show!

Thanks to Michael Drummond for hosting a fabulous trunk show in his awesome downtown, Wash ave, art lofts!!
The show comprised of several designers- jewelry, clothing and I even had a sneak peek of the artists loft!
A great night out on the town. With great friends Amy and Chris.

Love for Burberry

Trenches, parfume, shoes, scarves... ahh how I love Burberry Prorsum. I instantly re-ignited my love my Burberry after seeing Rumi wearing the oxford wedges.
After some serious deliberation and adjusting "Madelyn's Budget" for the year, I decided NOT to alter my necessities, and look for an alternative... it deemed impossible... until...

Jeffrey Campbells Watley... It reminds me SO much of the coveted wedge... I must have!

I cannot get enough of Jeffrey Campbell!!!

Warms your sole

Many thanks to avid readers and commenters! I have been meaning to post about my recent little (big) project, but have been so busy with other things. Its been a strange week... can't wait for it to pass! Saturday come quickly!

I should have snapped a few photos before I mattress stitched them together. The thing is, after I steamed the socks, they no longer looked like socks... they looked like stockings that should be hung from the mantel! They were ginormous, and I hated them. Thankfully my wonderfully talented mother was around and she saved the day by throwing them in the wash. Since the socks are 100% wool, they 'felted' in the warm water, causing them to sort of 'melt' together and slightly shrink. Now- they are perfect, and totally wearable. I wore them all day today with my riding boots and skirt. So warm and comfy. You truly cannot buy socks this thick and comfortable.

Steamed, seamed and felted

The 'ribbing' is slightly unnoticable because they have been washed

Inside out- seamed from the back of ankle down to toe under the foot

Seam under foot- not noticeable when wearing shoes

Knitting is slightly more challenging than crochet- multiple needles are required and there are too many types of stitches to count. Although crocheting is fast, fun and easy, I do prefer knitting.
However, once you learn the basics, you are home free! Lots of awesome tutorials online! I challenge you, and hopefully I inspire you as well.

Just a few photos from the past week:

My mother (basket weaver, knitter, rug hooker, card maker, soap maker, and super mom) has made more batches of soap than I can ever remember! Of course everyone she knows has asked some, and is almost already sold out before its finished curing! Love all these combinations. Coffee, coconut, peppermint, bluberry, lemon, lavender. Oh they are divine. All natural igredients used. All essential oils come from whole foods, lard and lye are purchased local, and the goats milk is provided by dear friends and neighbors. You can find her shop on Etsy! Shop name: patvogler, or bittersweetpat.

This is my fav! Peppermint!

Esme and I, my knitting helper

As friends know, I am gluten free. This bisquick (besides being a fourth the size as the regular) is amazing, no difference in taste, texture or cooking.

Premade pizza crusts from Udi's! Fabulous! Yummy. I need more!

Two Needle Socks

Finite!
Well close... I finished both socks, but now I have to steam, and seam... Cannot wait to post pictures of my first pair of quick knitted socks for you all to see!
And most importantly, I cannot wait to wear these warm woolly things.

Late night quote

Things change. They always do, it's one of the things of nature. Most people are afraid of change, but if you look at it as something you can always count on, then it can be a comfort
